What a wedding planner really does — and why she’s not the fairy godmother you think she is

Behind every flawless wedding, there’s no magic spell—there’s a planner.
And a wedding professional who works a lot more than Instagram suggests.

No, we don’t sleep between silk ribbons.
We don’t live on spritz cocktails and sunset venue tours.
And we definitely don’t show up on the wedding day with a magic wand in hand.

I know, I know: movies are partly to blame.
Once upon a time, one click was enough to summon the perfect bouquet, the clear blue sky, and the slow-motion finale.
Too bad that in real life, while everything flows seamlessly, a wedding planner is still working behind the scenes, juggling timings and taming last-minute surprises with the same obsessive precision of someone conducting a complex opera… without ever being seen.

So yes, let’s be honest: here’s what a wedding planner does (and does not do).

1. She doesn’t just pick flowers — she manages chaos

Planning a wedding is nothing like choosing your Sunday brunch outfit.
It’s a puzzle of 10,000 decisions, 6 vendors to coordinate, and 1 couple (you) who—rightfully—change their minds 12 times.

A wedding planner is the one who keeps everything together without developing emotional tendonitis.
She doesn’t decorate: she orchestrates.
She doesn’t improvise: she anticipates.

And when it rains? She already has Plan B (and Plan C hiding in the trunk).

2. She’s not an influencer with a notebook

Instagram has made our job look far more aesthetic—and far less realistic.
Behind every glossy photo, there’s someone who spent the night organizing the supplier parking logistics.

A wedding planner doesn’t pose: she calculates.
She sits somewhere between a creative director and a financial analyst (just with slightly more glamorous outfits).
And yes, she uses Excel. And she’s good at it.

3. She doesn’t impose her taste — she translates yours

A great wedding doesn’t speak the language of trends; it speaks the language of personality.
I might suggest raw linen and earthy tones, but if your dream involves fairy lights and vinyl records, we’ll find a way to make them dance together.

My job is to translate your ideas into a coherent vision—not make you live inside mine.

And if I advise against something, it’s not about control: it’s because I already know exactly how that story ends.

4. She doesn’t work only on the wedding day

What you see on the wedding day is just the tip of the iceberg.
Underneath there’s an ocean of emails, phone calls, walkthroughs, contracts, meetings, and a surprising number of psychological endurance tests.

When everything looks “effortless,” it means someone—guess who—has spent months making it so.

A wedding planner is the one who solves problems before you ever notice them.
And no, she’s not always in heels. Sometimes… sneakers and band-aids.

5. She’s not a luxury — she’s peace of mind

There’s always a moment when every couple says the inevitable sentence:
“Maybe we should have hired a wedding planner.”

It usually happens around the 30th quote request or the second tableau meltdown.

But here’s the truth: a wedding planner doesn’t take away your freedom—she gives it back to you.
She’s not just helpful “on the wedding day”: she’s essential the moment you want to stop worrying and start enjoying your journey.

With a light mind, a full heart, and a phone that finally stops ringing.

My job isn’t to make you live a fairytale.
It’s to give you a real day—extraordinary because it works.

Behind every perfect photo, there’s a plan, an unexpected twist, a tough call made at the right moment.
And a person (me) who, instead of waving a wand, has learned to survive life with humor, checklists, and a very reliable concealer.

Because real magic is this:
making something look easy when it never truly is.
